We offer competitive rates of pay. Subject to satisfactory progress and an annual review, this increases on an annual basis until the maximum scale point on our scale structure has been reached.
Support Work can sometimes mean a good deal of travelling between assignments. At The Action Group, travel time required during your working day between shifts is payable, with the exception of the beginning and end of the day. Eligible mileage and travel costs can also be claimed.
The Action Group is committed to providing the best possible services and in order to do so we require efficient and effective staff who can face challenges with confidence and a smile. We have a dedicated Learning and Development team who will provide and oversee much of your initial training. There is also the opportunity to undertake SVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care where possible, at the discretion of The Action Group.
Your training and development is important to us and to those we support. All new employees have an initial probationary period of at least six months’ duration, during which you will have regular meetings with your supervisor who will help you to learn on the job. This does not end after probation: your supervisor will continue to meet with you and offer support and guidance throughout your employment with us. The people we support will also play a part in helping you to learn how to support them to live their lives the way they want.
It may not seem important now but one day you will be glad to have given it some thought. Subject to the eligibility requirements, The Action Group will automatically enrol you into a pension scheme (although you can opt out). We pay a 3% employer contribution on top of your employee contribution of 4%. Those who do not meet the eligibility requirements for auto-enrolment may choose to join too.
The initial annual holiday entitlement is 29 days, including public and bank holidays, paid on a pro rata basis for part time employees. This increases according to length of service. (Casual support workers are paid for statutory holidays, based on the number of hours worked the previous month.)
Flexibility helps our employees maintain a healthy work/life balance. The Action Group’s full time working week is 39 hours but we also offer part time hours and a variety of flexible arrangements. If you are interested in working for us and those we support – whatever your availability is – speak to us! Our users may be able to accommodate your requirements. Later down the line, our Flexible Working policy can help those with 26 weeks’ service accommodate changes in their circumstances, if this suits the people we support.
We are a family friendly employer who recognises the challenges sometimes faced by juggling work and family. Enhanced Maternity, Paternity and Adoption pay and leave are offered to eligible employees and we have generous Carers and Compassionate Leave policies, giving paid time off to help deal with life’s difficulties.
