Volunteering at The Action Group
Volunteers at The Action Group play an important role in keeping our values alive, supporting our services, and directly or indirectly benefitting service users.
For some, volunteering is a way to contribute to their community, or work towards a cause which they are passionate about. For others it is a method of gaining valuable skills and experience for their future careers.
It might equally be a way to meet new people and try out new things… Or it may be a combination of all these factors!
If you have the drive to volunteer with The Action Group, there are various ways to do it, some of which are listed below.
- Sharing your skills and interests with individuals who have support needs
The Action Group runs various interest groups for and with service users (eg walking, cooking, gardening). We would be very interested to hear from people who currently share these or similar interests who would like to get involved.
- Helping on The Action Group’s Playschemes
The Action Group is part of INC, a consortium of playscheme providers for children with support needs. These playschemes run during school holidays and half term breaks. Volunteers assist paid staff with running activities and playing with the children to ensure they all have a great time.
- Serving on our Board of Directors (Trustees)
We are always interested in hearing from people who wish to serve on our Board of Directors and play a key role in the governance of this organisation. Individuals who have specific business-related knowledge and experience (eg Finance or HR) are particularly welcome, as are individuals with a personal or professional interest in the work which The Action Group carries out. The Action Group was set up by parents and cares of people with support needs and this remains true of many of our current Board. Board members’ passion for promoting the rights and dignity of our service users helps to guide The Action Group’s overall decision-making and direction.
- Helping with office based work
We are always keen to hear from people who have particular skills in administration, IT, communications, finance, HR or any other practical ‘behind the scenes’ work that will contribute to the overall running of the organisation. From a few hours a week, any help you can offer makes a real difference.
If you are interested in volunteering in any of the above ways (or have any other ideas about how you could volunteer with us), please contact our HR department at firstname.lastname@example.org or give us a call for a conversation on 0131 475 2315.
We would be delighted to hear from you.
